Hurricane Season 2025 Has Officially Begun—And It’s Off to a Stormy Start

June 1 marked the official start of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, and Florida didn’t waste any time reminding residents why preparation is so important. On day one, severe thunderstorms rolled through South Florida, bringing intense weather and strong winds to parts of the state. There was even property damage caused by high winds and a fallen tree in Broward County. 

Opening Day Storm Brings Property Damage to South Florida

On Sunday, June 1, heavy rain and powerful thunderstorms swept across parts of Florida as the season kicked off. The National Weather Service issued a marginal risk alert for severe weather, warning residents of isolated storms and wind gusts potentially reaching 60 mph. In Margate, FL significant property damage was reported. Radar estimated wind speeds may have climbed as high as 70 mph near 63rd Avenue in Margate.

Forecasters say the tropical moisture will linger, bringing more rainfall and storm activity through early Wednesday.Rainfall totals are expected to reach 2 to 4 inches, with some isolated areas potentially receiving up to 6 inches.
